East Gallery Exhibitions


The East Gallery is our yearly-rotating exhibition space reflecting current curatorial research by museum staff and university faculty in collaboration with students and local communities. This space is currently in transition as make some necessary facility upgrades. 

  
Opening Fall 2021: "When a Woman Rises" - an exhibition exploring how textiles 

made by women'sweaving cooperatives in the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico facilitate cross-cultural connections and while maintaining indigenous traditions. This exhibition will be co-curated by Kristin Otto (University Museum Curator) and Christine Eber (Professor Emerita) in collaboration with Weaving for Justice and weavers in Chiapas. Opening Fall 2022: An exhibition examining archaeological collections from the dry caves of the Organ Mountains in collaboration with indigenous elders. For more on this project see the museum's current research page.
