When a Woman Rises

The East Gallery is our yearly-rotating exhibition space reflecting current curatorial research by museum staff and university faculty in collaboration with students and local communities.

OPEN AUGUST 17, 2021 - August 1, 2022

The exhibtion "When a Woman Rises: Maya Weavers Creating Relationships Through Textiles" (Cuando una mujer se levanta: Las artesananas mayas y la creación de relaciones por medio de textiles), explores the pratice of Maya weaving in Chiapas, Mexico and the many layered relationships created as textiles circulate around the world. The exhibition was co-curated with NMSU Professor Emerita Christine Eber, the local organization Weaving for Justice, and with contributions from the Tsobol Antsetik weaving cooperative.
